Obama windfall profits on oil companies
Here is the Democrats’ stated policy straight from the Barack Obama website.
Provide Short-term Relief to American Families
• Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families.
It is obvious; once again, that the liberal policies of the American Democrat party are based on the attitude that by nature, people are inherently bad and someone needs to be punished for it. The very first item on the list is the windfall profits tax on oil companies. Basically, the underlying attitude behind this idea is that the greedy business men running the companies as well as the shareholders are unfairly making too much money on the backs of average Americans. For those of you who don’t yet understand how capitalism is supposed to work, the most basic objective for a company is to make as much profit as possible. Profits are good people, not bad. More profits are better, not worse. Higher profits benefit employees as well as shareholders. Companies don’t lay off workers when they are making record profits. If anything, they reward them.
Part of the American dream is any citizen having an opportunity to become rich. Isn’t it? So, Democrats want to punish these people for actually living the American dream. Sounds a little ridiculous to me. Come on people. Use some common sense. If you really think oil companies are making too much money then why not buy a share of their stock. Then you can make too much money too.
Enacting a windfall profits tax sends a message to business across America. It says “Don’t you dare make a lot of money or we’ll take it from you.” This attitude gives companies another reason to leave the United States. Aren’t we exporting enough jobs? Our companies are already overtaxed.
Picking on the oil companies is purely a political move. It underscores the fact that the liberal Democrats are willing to attack anyone for their own political gain. Don’t you agree? Why not go after Bill Gates or Warren buffet for earning too much money? By comparison, they earn way more money than the shareholders of these oil companies. Notice, the Democrats don’t dare attack Warren Buffet. After all, he is a strong Democrat party supporter.
Solution to windfall profits
If the Democrats feel that the oil companies are making too much money, why not enact policies to see that the people on welfare become shareholders of those highly profitable companies. Sounds radical huh? This way, when the oil companies are making too much money in the Democrats’ eyes, that money will automatically be shared with the lowest income earners in America.
Doesn’t it make a hell of a lot more sense than punishing people (a.k.a. shareholders) for making wise investment decisions?
