Patriotism is really love of country, willingness to sacrifice for the country either when called upon or, even better, just voluntarily. I think our two current wars prove that patriotism is very much alive in our people under forty. I just finished a very interesting new e-novel about 3 generations of a family in Main Line Philadelphia called "The Lincoln Conversations" by L. Paul Brehm. The love of country of each generation is unique. The patriotism of the younger and the WWII generations is what might be considered traditional. That generation in the middle, of which I myself am a part, reinvented everything. Has their radical experiment worked? The author of "The Lincoln Conversations" wonders.

I have been asking this question of my peers for awhile. Growing up in the midwest, we were proud to fly the flag, buy an etch-a-sketche and levis and drive a car from a company whose profits stayed here. What happened? With the growth of big box stores and 'More for Less', I think the question becomes, When did we become a nation of Consumerism instead of Patriotism? If we can't support our own national products and keep our manufacturing base, if we can't protect our own borders but protest over others, it is more than just pride for our country that we will have lost.

I have been unemployed for six months and still cannot find a job. I went to the ACS trying to find placement. Because I don't have a card, they won't help me. I have been to the civilian job service for every day since I have lost my job. Now since there are other civilians that are losing their wage hours or their entire positions, I am not the only one becoming resentful while our taxes increase to afford such a fat military.

Hi,
Please think a little harder about what your saying. We are a country of people from around the world! That's how we started, when you were a kid, your world was full of candy and child games. Of coures the country seemed better from the eyes of a child. If you would have said, "when I was 23" then I would have related better.
