Boycott General Motors Products

By Common Sense Republican

I thought American business was supposed to be survival of the fittest.  Since when does government get to pick and choose which companies deserve to survive and which ones should fail?  There they go once again sticking their damn noses in places it doesn’t belong.  I thought we had a pretty general consensus in this country since about the years leading up to 1776 that free market capitalism was the path to prosperity.  Hmmmm,  I guess that is no longer the case?

The Obama administration has unilaterally decided that it is big brother’s new job to decide who is worthy of its mercy.   Kiss the pinky ring of Obama the almighty, lest ye be cast to the side and fed to the dogs like Chrysler is about to be.  Damn this really pisses me off.  As if the government knows how to manage money.  They are even bigger failures at money management then the meat heads who ran GM into the ground.   Government involvement in this matter is going to guarantee future failure of the new entity and prohibit the free market from swiftly cleansing and recovering on its own.

How come we aren’t hearing more out of Ford motor company?

If I was a Ford executive, I would be raising all holy hell about why my biggest competitor is being propped up by Uncle Sam.  Talk about unfair competition.   Is Ford going to sue the United States government for unfair competition the first time our government places a large fleet order with General Motors?  Is the UAW threatening to strike if Ford speaks out against the government’s unfair business practices?  Something is a little fishy here.

The only thing the United States Federal Government should be involved in is an organized breakup of General Motors.  General Motors already went bankrupt back when the first round of billions was given to them.  It should be split up and sold off to the highest bidder.  Proceeds should be dispersed in the following order:

1)      Payback all government investment

2)      Payback all bond holder’s principle

3)      Remaining proceeds to shareholders

I propose they do the exact same thing with all of these other companies that needed a so called bail out.  Sell them all off in parts.  Why are we subsidizing failures?  Break up and sell off those financial institutions.  Sell every last one of them.  Their business model didn’t work.  Sell them.  Why in the world would you want to keep doing something that is proven to fail?  Sell them off to their competitors or some other private investment group.  Let the market price decide what it is worth.  Common sense says to sell them all.  Anything other than that is simply un-American and anti-capitalist.

I for one am choosing to boycott all new General Motors products.

Why in the world would I want to support an obviously flawed unsustainable business model?  I do not condone the actions of our government regarding this company.  The Obama administration just wants to fix the company.  Giving them more money is like trying to use metal coat hangers to tie the wheels back on a rotted out 1950’s junker P.O.S. car that had the wheels rust right off of it.  Just junk the damn thing and sell it for scrap metal.  It is going to cost way more than it is worth to rebuild it and make it reliable again.

To the retired workers of General Motors who would lose pension money:  Have you learned nothing from the Enron scandal?  Why would you have put all of your eggs into one basket?  Why did you invest in the General Motor’s pension Ponzi scheme?  That is your own damn fault.  Maybe you should have set some of your way above average paychecks aside for a rainy day.  I have never worked for a company that offered a pension.  Every single dollar of retirement savings I have saved has been taken directly out of my pocket.  I live below my means so I can save for a rainy day.  Now people like me are being taxed to subsidize the lifestyle of people like you.  How do you like getting your government welfare check every month with the General Motors name on it?  Do you feel like less of a man for taking it?  You should.   It is welfare.

Maybe if enough people boycott new General Motors products we can force a breakup.  Let them get new blood in there to run those factories on all levels.  The American entrepreneur is a force to be reckoned with.  Let the next great visionary convince some investors to back his team in rebuilding the American icon of the auto industry.  If the market doesn’t produce this new visionary on its own, then it is only right to let other auto companies snap up GM assets for pennies on the dollar.  To the victor go the spoils.

Buy American.  Buy Ford.  Ford may not be perfect, but at least they appear to have a sustainable business model.  They even employ UAW workers.  How they do it is a mystery.  Hats off to their management and employees for getting the job done.  Word of advice for Ford employees; Don’t rely on the contributions you are also making into the giant UAW pension fund Ponzi scheme.  I suggest you start banking some of those nice paychecks and save them for a rainy day.  At this rate, it is going to be raining on the American economy for many years to come.

Thank you for providing this forum to express our outrage over the ugly turn this country has taken these past several months (years actually). A truly free enterprise system requires the demise of any “species” that has proven unfit to evolve and meet the current demand and economic climate. This way, the assets & labor of a failed enterprise can then be arsorbed by those able to meet & conquer the challenges of survival. To have our government step in and alter the fate of any enterprise in a free market system is an abomination & a threat to our existence in a free America.

I support the proposed boycott, and I like to challenge everyone to reconsider their definition of “american”. Having a post office box address in Detroit, Michigan does not really qualify any of the “big three” to be considered an american auto manufacturer. I believe anyone with the courage to challenge this notion & perform a bit of research will find these organizations to be less “american” than Honda, Toyota & Nissan (etc)…by virtue of the % of parts manufactured and the amount of competitive employment right here on american soil. While I’m proud that Ford has not gone over to the dark side as of yet…we as americans need to consider what is truly best for America each & every time we purchase goods and services. Any organization that that helps put food on american tables & helps us to keep our slice of real estate in this great country is OK in my book. However, let’s be careful where our assumptions lead us in this endeavor. This isn’t our grandfather’s auto industry any longer.
